FLASHSALE
Discovering the Best Kept Secrets on the Upper West Side.
The Upper West Side in NYC truly is a treasure to behold among the towering neutral-hued skyscrapers.
The vastness of the UWS is historically known to be a significantly Jewish neighborhood; however, up until recently, it has grown in popularity from flourishing families to ambitious young professionals. This charming district is contained within the southern border at West 59th Street and continues north, all the way to West 110th Street. Because of what would seem like continuous residential streets, one would notice the bustling ambiance diminishes as you explore northward.
Residential
Â
While the UWS has residential characteristics believed to be comparable to one another, an array of housing options couldn’t be further from the truth. Not only can you find rows of meticulously cared-for Brownstones, but the area is spotted with an array of classic pre-war apartments and elegant high-rise buildings. Each street is embellished with aged oak trees that tower over the pedestrian’s walkway, offering shade along the way. The aroma of freshly bloomed tulips in the spring and crisp leaves in the fall allow residents and visitors the gift of unique nostalgia.
Family Life
Family Life
UWS is among the best places for families to raise their kids, and for a good reason. Not only is this neighborhood dotted with highly esteemed elementary schools on almost every block, but you can relish in unique playgrounds that scratch the itch of the most curious adventurer. Whether you need to help your little one burn off some energy, or you are enjoying a beautiful, brisk fall walk (don’t forget your cozy sweatshirt), Upper West Side’s exquisite views will leave you feeling sentimental that New York City is the place you call home.
Parks and Recreation
Parks and Recreation
Nestled between Central Park to the east and the Hudson River and Riverside Park on the west, the Upper West Side definitely does not have a shortage of green space to enjoy. With either park walking distance from pretty much anywhere in the neighborhood, getting fresh air and a healthy dose of Vitamin D couldn’t be easier! Central Park offers 55 acres of lush emerald pasture, a quaint boathouse with rowboat rentals, and a Conservatory Garden that provides a peaceful sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of the busy streets. With so much space to spread out, all you need is your favorite novel, your Upper West Side snapback hat – got to rep your neighborhood!, and a picnic lunch on your favorite blanket. Let the R&R commence!
Arts and Culture
Are you looking for indoor, rainy day fun to pass the time? With an abundance of museums within your reach, you are sure to find something for everyone in your group. The Children’s Museum of Manhattan is excellent for the mover-and-groover little people in your life. For the young at heart and those looking for an exciting adventure, you can’t lose with the American Museum of Natural History (I mean, who doesn’t love a real-life dinosaur exhibit?!). And for those with a more refined cultural pallet, you can spend practically an entire day perusing priceless art on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Long gone are the days of watching the rain from your bedroom window!
Shopping
Love to shop until you drop? Shopping throughout the Upper West Side can’t be beat. From small local boutiques to well-known retail chains to an array of grocery stores, you are bound to find just what you need without even leaving the neighborhood! UWS is home to Zabar’s, a family-run New York City establishment of eighty years. This specialty store is known for its Jewish deli offerings, as well as its unique home goods. If nothing else, simply stop by for the atmosphere! Another one of the UWS’s greatest treasures is the 77th/79th Street Greenmarket. Here you can find agricultural goods such as grass-fed beef, baked bread, fresh blooms, and harvested honey from around the Tri-State area. The Greenmarket is a great way to find seasonal fruits and veggies, all locally sourced. All you need is a tote bag or two and a good cup of coffee to get your morning shopping started right!
Transportation
While most things are within walking distance, for those who prefer a speedier commute, the Upper West Side is accessible by the 1, 2, 3, A, C, B, and D MTA subway lines. With the 42nd Street station, just a few train stops away, you practically have the New York City vicinity at your fingertips. Catching a Broadway show, having a meal in Chinatown, and spending the day in Brooklyn has never been easier.
Although, with so many neighborhood options within the Upper West Side, why would you ever want to leave?
